Hessian Upholstery offers a re-upholstery and design service to different people and businesses. We can help you to choose the perfect fabric for that much loved sofa or chair. Alternatively we can build made-to-order pieces based on your ideas / designs.

The company was set up in 2014 and is the brainchild of Jerome Shorter who lives and works in Tunbridge Wells - Out of a desire to provide an upholstery / re-upholstery service which was a cut above the rest (excuse the pun!). Jerome has experience working with furniture restoration and repair and has a sensibility when it comes to knowing what works.

That seems like a lot of time to be sitting down, doesn´t it? Actually it is worth considering the amount and variety of "sitting facilities" around us at any one time. Are you sitting down right now?I would not be surprised if you were. If not, will you sit down in the next hour? I would not be surprised if you did! Are you sitting at a bus stop or at a computer? Are you on the train or in the doctor´s surgery? Are you at your desk or in the comfort of your own home - on your sofa?

It seems that sitting is quite a big part of our lives - compare it with eating or sleeping.

Enter now the humble upholsterer - he who quietly, painstakingly works in his workshop or studio in an effort to make your life MORE COMFORTABLE. He /She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this area and can choose a certain gauge of seat spring depending on whether you require more or less support, He/She will decide how deep a seat needs to be depending on its purpose or what type of fabric is required, or how to hang curtains, or what type of pleats to do, or the correct cushion filling - whether that is foam or feather or something else.
